The things that seem normal in your everyday routines are opportunities to turn our hearts to gratitude. From the moment you wake up until the time you go to bed, be mindful throughout your day.
I came from a country where some people live in poverty and have nothing, but they are one of the most grateful people I have known. They are thankful for the things we take for granted. Clean water is indeed celebrated as a gift. A simple sugar for their coffee is a gift and blessing to their lives.
Today, as you brush your teeth, thank Him for the clean water and a personal toothbrush. As you go to the bathroom, do you realize you have more sterile water in your toilet than some have to drink? And the plush toilet paper, that’s something to be grateful for, too. There are things we’ve become accustomed to that we get to notice today. At times, for the little that we have, we begin to complain. We complain about having a car that is too old and needs an upgrade. At the same time, most people wish they had a car so they would not have to walk in this cold weather. Some make complaints about the place where they live that may be too small, and Homeless who are outside now are craving for a space so at least they can lay their heads at night and be warm, and this list goes on.
Psalms is an affirmation to you and me. “I will exalt the Lord today at all times.” Do not forget the Lord throughout your day; take a look at your day, of what you have, and you will see God’s hands, and you will start to thank him because he’s never failed you.
Do you recognize God throughout your day? How can you remind yourself to redirect your thoughts from your busyness to His goodness that can fuel your gratefulness?
Set a reminder on your phone for today only. Pick two different times and schedule a reminder that asks, “Have I seen God?” or your version of that question. We are being intentional to notice God and be mindful of the God things going on around us throughout our day.
